After accruing 35 years of professional excellence in marketing, Mr. French retired from his role as chief marketing officer for Altria in 2015. Prior to obtaining that role in 2012, he founded Mike French Consulting and worked for the Brown-Forman Corp. from 2003 until 2011 as the vice president of consumer insights, senior vice president of consumer insights and senior vice president of corporate strategy. Earlier, he served as a senior consultant for the Monitor Group from 2000 until 2002, after holding many roles for The Coca-Cola Co. over the course of 13 years. Joining Coca-Cola as a marketing director in 1987, he went on to be named the vice president of marketing for the U.S. fountain business, and vice president of marketing for Coca-Cola's non-retail channels, among others. Mr. French's earliest roles in the field were as the assistant brand manager and brand assistant for Procter & Gamble from 1978 until 1980 and brand manager for P&G from 1981 until 1984.
Mr. French earned a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in New Jersey in 1976 and a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Illinois in 1978. Now that he is retired, he devotes his time to bettering his community through the national board of directors for Communities in Schools, where he is a member of the executive committee and chairs the Governance and Nominating committee. Previously, he dedicated himself to the Coca-Cola United Way Campaign, the Louisville Fund for the Arts, Community Foundation of Louisville and the Governor's Anti-Substance Abuse Commission in Kentucky. For excellence in his career, Mr. French was honored with the Outstanding Kentuckian Award by former Governor Martha Layne Collins, which he earned in 1987, and several features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
