Kathryn MacKay Kolkhorst's most recent book, "We Live Until We Die," is set to be released in 2019.
MISSOULA, MT, July 10, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Kathryn MacKay Kolkhorst with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Kolkhorst celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An accomplished lawyer of over 45 years, Ms. Kolkhorst is currently retired, having most recently served as a partner with Ruddy, Bradley & Kolkhorst in Juneau, Alaska, from 1989 to 2016. Prior to this tenure, she had the great opportunity to serve as the assistant attorney general for the state of Alaska in Juneau from 1979 to 1985. Earlier in her career, Ms. Kolkhorst found much success as a law clerk to the presiding justice with the Alaska Supreme Court in Juneau from 1977 to 1978.
Ms. Kolkhorst began her career as a reporter with the New Haven Journal Courier in Connecticut from 1970 to 1975. During this time, she and the other women she worked with realized that they were being paid 35 dollars a week less than the men, despite their education and experience. This led her to bring a lawsuit against the New Haven Register Corp., now known as Hearst Media Services Connecticut LLC. Winning the suit a few years later, it was this experience that led Ms. Kolkhorst to a career in law.
Alongside her primary responsibilities, Ms. Kolkhorst is an accomplished writer and is the co-author of "A Dangerous Idea: The Alaska Native Brotherhood and the Struggle for Indigenous Rights," which was published by the University of Alaska Press in 2014. Her most recent book, "We Live Until We Die," is set to be released in 2019. In an effort to remain up to date with developments in her field, she maintains professional affiliation with the Alaska Bar Association. Out of all she has achieved throughout her career, Ms. Kolkhorst is most proud of the six Native American women she mentored in Juneau.
An incredibly active member of her community, Ms. Kolkhorst has found some of the most meaningful experiences of her life have come from the work she has done with various non-profit organizations. Involved with the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council from 1979 to 1982 and the Juneau Symphony from 1980 to 1984, she spent nearly 30 years as the president and chair of Juneau Jazz & Classics from 1987 to 2016. Notably, she is the founder of The Whale Project in Juneau, and also dedicated time as the president of the board. In her free time, Ms. Kolkhorst enjoys walking, reading and history.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Kolkhorst completed coursework at Wellesley College in Massachusetts from 1966 to 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven in 1969. Completing postgraduate coursework at the prestigious Yale University from 1975 to 1977, she concluded her studies at the University of Connecticut in West Hartford, where she obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1977. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Kolkhorst was licensed to practice law by the Alaska State Bar in 1979 and was admitted to practice by the United States District Court for the District of Alaska in 1982.
An expert in domestic relations, family law and Alaska Native law, Ms. Kolkhorst holds a Distinguished Rating from Martindale Hubbell. She is also being honored by the University of Alaska Southeast and will be presented with a Meritorious Service Award in May 2019. In light of all her accomplishments over the years, Ms. Kolkhorst has previously been featured in Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in America.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Kolkhorst has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
