With nearly 50 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Cohen has excelled in mathematics since 1972. He began his career as an assistant professor, further progressing to the post of an associate professor at Northern Illinois University from 1972 and 1979. Whilst working with the aforementioned institution, he also served as a fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey between 1975 and 1977. Soon thereafter, he found success at the University of Kentucky in Lexington as an associate professor and a professor from 1982 to 1989. Dr. Cohen has contributed to the University of Rochester as a professor since 1989.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Cohen is proud to have conducted research on exponents for the homotopy groups of spheres and Moore spaces in joint work with J.C. Moore and J.A. Neisendorfer Additionally, he explored the cohomology of configuration of spaces as well as polyhedral products in joint work with A. Bahri, M. Bendersky and S. Gitler. Utilizing his expertise, he has been a member of the editorial board for Forum Mathematicum with Walter Degruyter Company, from 1988 to present. He has been on the editorial board of "Algebraic and Geometric Topology as well as the Journal of Homotopy and Related Structures. For his accomplishments, Dr. Cohen has been recognized as a fellow of the A.P. Sloan Foundation Fellow from 1979 and 1983.
Dr. Cohen initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University in 1967. A short time later, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago in 1972. To remain aware of developments in the industry, Dr. Cohen maintains his affiliation with the American Mathematical Society.
An exceptional Marquis listee, Dr. Cohen has been selected for inclusion in the 4th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Likewise, he has been presented with a grants from the National Science Foundation. Married to his wife, Kathleen, since 1976, they are proud parents of two daughters, Helen and Sarah.
