MOREHEAD, KY, July 19, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Richard Douglas Chatham has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Inspired by his high school mathematics teacher, Ruth Rufty, and college professor, Elmer Hayashi, Dr. Chatham pursued a career in mathematics. Today, he excels as an associate professor at Morehead State University, where he started in 2001 as assistant professor. Since he joined the university, he has also gained valuable expertise as interim chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics from 2015 to 2016 and as chair of the university's Faculty Senate from 2012 to 2013. His first role in the field was visiting assistant professor at Wake Forest University in the 2000-2001 academic year.
Before taking on his first academic position, Dr. Chatham earned an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University in 1990. Subsequently, he pursued coursework through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, between 1992 and 2000, earning a doctorate under the mentorship of his PhD advisor, Dr. David Dobbs. He maintains professional affiliation with the Mathematical Association of America, the American Mathematical Society and the Kentucky Academy of Science. He also devotes his time to the Morehead State Public Radio Community Advisory Board. Through the Morehead State Public Radio Station WMKY-FM, he was honored to host several episodes of a comedy music program called "Odd Numbers."
Blessed with talent and intelligence, Dr. Chatham received significant help from former professors to achieve great success. Throughout the years, he has loved mathematics and the academic environment, citing numerous career highlights. Among his notable achievements, he is most proud of having his research mentioned by Science Magazine, the magazine of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, in September 2008. Looking toward the future, he intends to be promoted at Morehead State University and continue his research in the field.
