With more than 40 years of experience in education to her credit, Ms. Antons has become an authority in her field. After receiving a Bachelor of Science from the University of Dubuque in 1948, she was certified as a secondary teacher in the State of Iowa. Ms. Antons became a mathematics teacher at Central Community School District in Elkader, Iowa, in 1948, Onslow Independent Schools in Iowa in 1950, Midland Community School District in 1960, and Kirkwood Community College in 1982. Retiring from education in 1990, Ms. Antons currently serves as the scholarship chair for the Jones Soil and Water Conservation Board and as a member of the scholarship advisory board at the Jones County Health Association. Ms. Antons also excelled as president of the Beta Nu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and volunteered her time as a member of the advisory board for the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women, as well as a member of the Limestone Bluffs Resource Conservation and Development, the Jones County Soil and Water Commission, and the Iowa League of Resource Conservation & Development, Inc.
In light of her outstanding achievements in the field, Ms. Antons has received a number of accolades throughout her career. She earned the President's Award for Excellence in Mathematical Education in 1988, the Friends of Mathematics Award from the Iowa Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 1992, the Jones County Conservation Outstanding Teacher Award in 1988 and again in 1993, and the Upsilon State Organization of DKG Achievement Award in 2016. Likewise, she was honored with the University of Dubuque Alumni Service and Community Award in 2008, the Grant Wood Trail Service Award in 2008, and the Limestone Bluffs Outstanding Service Award in 2017. Notably, Ms. Antons was recognized as a President's Scholar of the University of Dubuque in 1945 and a National Science Foundation Scholar of Drake University in 1967. She also received the national Science Scholarship from Clark College in 1968. In light of her many contributions to the field, Ms. Antons has also been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of American Women.
