An expert in nursing and education, Ms. Somontes excelled as an independent nurse consultant in Seattle, Washington from 1993 to 2004. Earlier in her career, she worked as the branch manager and a senior nurse consultant for Genex Services from 1993 until 1995, a nurse consultant for Yvonne Campbell & Associates and a rehabilitation case administrator for the return-to-work program at Boeing Company the previous year. Ms. Somontes additionally served as the owner and an independent consultant for Bohun & Associates between 1990 and 1992.
Previously, Ms. Somontes was active as a corporate supervisor, and a medical and vocational case management trainer for VPS Case Management Services and the Fortis Corporation for two years. Throughout the 1980s, she held varying nursing positions for Winter Park Home Health Care, the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home and Twin Tier Home Health Incorporated. One of her first roles in the field was as a staff nurse in oncology and a team member in the bone marrow transplant unit for Saint Francis Hospital. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Somontes is particularly proud of establishing the all-student run Brookland Free Health Clinic in Washington, D.C. in 1982, contributing as a coordinator for Catholic University Health Screening and Education Fairs and serving on DHHS committee for drafting a white paper on people with HIV and AIDS moving independend of the workforce as their condition met.
A diplomate through the American Board of Disability Analysts, Ms. Somontes earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Catholic University of America in 1982. She later graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1985. Ms. Somontes retains her professional alignment with the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, the Washington Self Insured Association, the Case Management Association of America, the Washington Medical Case Management Group and the Disability Managers Employers Coalition.
Utilizing her considerable knowledge, Ms. Somontes authored "A Handbook for Case Managers" in 1990, as well as "My Mother's Tattoo" in 1996. Due to her professional accomplishments, she was presented with the Olivian Award for Leadership in Nursing, the SNA Community Health Award, Outstanding Young Women in America and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Ms. Somontes has been further featured in publications such as Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
