Retired from her full-time career as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1990 after teaching on campus for three years, Dr. Tanous was also a private practice diagnostic radiologist in Largo, FL. between 1974 and 1980. In previous years, she worked as the director of the medical student education in diagnostic radiology at the Ben Taub Hospital in Houston and a private practice physician specializing in radiology in Los Angeles. In academia, she excelled as an assistant professor of diagnostic radiology at the Baylor Medical School in Houston, an instructor of radiology at the University of Southern California Medical School in Los Angeles and an assistant professor and the director of medical student education in diagnostic radiology at the University of Texas in Galveston. The chief of radiology at the Diagnostic Clinic in Largo, FL, Dr. Tanous continued to teach as an assistant professor of diagnostic radiology as well as Director of Medical Student Education at the University of South Florida Medical School in 1980.
A member, past president and member of the board of directors of the L'Alliance Francaise of Tampa since 1984, Dr. Tanous is also a member and former member of the board of directors for the Federation of Alliances Francaises U.S.A. She is further affiliated with the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association (1974) and the Houston Committee on Foreign Relations as well. Within her community, Dr. Tanous has contributed a great deal of her time as the president and founder of Children's Advocates, Inc. between 1977 and 1985 and on the board of directors of the Florida Endowment for the Humanities from 1979 to 1983. Dr. Tanous is a member of the Order of Salvador - the Dali Museum, St. Petersburg, FL (1992).
In 1988, Dr. Tanous was presented with a Knighthood-Chevalier des Palmes Academiques from the government of France at a luncheon in her honor. Likewise, she was presented with a Distinguished Alumni Award, the Golden Dome, from Marymount College of Fordham University. Moreover, Dr. Tanous has since been featured in more than 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Dr. Tanous has made appearances on television as well as given many interviews to newspapers.
Earning a Bachelor's degree at Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, in 1961, Dr. Tanous soon after obtained a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas in Galveston in 1967. She later completed an internship at the County Hospital in Los Angeles, followed by residencies in radiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and the University of Southern California Hospital in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Dr. Tanous is a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology.
