A longtime educator, Mrs. Banter works at the Georgia Department of Education as a college readiness and talent development program specialist. She previously lent her talents to the Peach County Board of Education in Fort Valley, Georgia, as a teacher of the gifted, instructional facilitator and gifted district coordinator. Over the course of her career with Peach County, she has served as a coach for the Future Problem Solving Team from 1993 to 2019, and a coach for the middle school quiz bowl team. She also taught general education courses from 1976 to 1985.
Hailing from a family of professional educators, Mrs. Banter feels that it was her calling to share information to help children reach their fullest potential. She notes that she specifically loved working with students in rural areas. Devoting much of her career to gifted learners, she confesses many are under the impression that intelligent children are intrinsic learners, but she cites that it is important to assist these children to process material correctly. Utilizing specific instructional strategies, she identifies, is exceptionally important.
Mrs. Banter is an alumnus of Asbury University, through which she received a bachelor's degree in 1976. She later attended Georgia Southwestern College, where she received a master's degree and an Ed.S. in 1978 and 1988, respectively. She attended Georgia College and State University where she received an additional Ed.S. in 2013. She holds a gifted endorsement and coach endorsement and is a national board-certified teacher.
Mrs. Banter is a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and the Georgia Association for Gifted Children. Locally, she served as a pre-teen coordinator for BEAS from 1994 to 1996, served on the youth resources team for over 20 years, and was a parent volunteer for the Peach Area Community Theater from 1993 to 1996. Additionally, she has devoted 30 years to the Fort Valley Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, since 1989.
Mrs. Banter was named Future Problem Solving State Coach of the Year three times since 2000 by the Georgia Future Problem Solving Program. In 2000, she was named Peach County Teacher of the Year and in 2016 she received the Margaret Bynum Scholar award from the Georgia Association for Gifted Children. For her professional efforts, she was cited in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
