A nationally and internationally recognized expert in her field, Dr. Luginbuehl celebrates more than 30 years of quality, compassionate care for her students and students struggling worldwide with unidentified sleep disorders. She has practiced school psychology since 1987, beginning her career at the Pasco County School District in Land 'O Lakes, Florida, where she maintained her involvement until 2006. From 2006 through 2014 she was a school psychologist in Afton, WY until she resigned to focus fulltime on her corporation. Luginbuehl has been a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) since 1992 and continues today. In 2004, Dr. Luginbuehl published a screening inventory for children and adolescents suffering from major sleep problems and disorders, known as the Sleep Disorders Inventory for Students, or SDIS. Because many members of Dr. Luginbuehl's family have been afflicted by one or more hereditary sleep disorders, the SDIS was the culmination of her family's suffering and many years of research, and it has helped parents and professionals diagnose children and teens through a simple online screening process. Dr. Luginbuehl recently launched the new SDIS –Revised for children and adolescents, as well as the new Sleep Disorders Inventory for Adults (SDI-A). Possessed of inexhaustible energy for treating the psychological and physical needs of students, Dr. Luginbuehl remains the president and the chief executive officer of Child Uplift, Incorporated, an organization she founded to help improve the universal sleep screening process for students in the United States and abroad. She provides webinars and trainings to professionals to promote better screening practices for students' sleep disorders. She is also the author of numerous scientific journal articles and book chapters as well as the author of "Settle For No More Bullying, Harassment or Abuse!" It will be available on Amazon and in a variety of bookstores in the late Fall or Winter of 2019.
Dr. Luginbuehl obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Kansas and a Doctor of Philosophy earned at the University of South Florida. For her many contributions to the field of school psychology and sleep medicine, she was the winner of the 2003 American Psychological Association's Dissertation of the Year Award, and had the honor of being recognized as the Florida Student Services Person of the Year for Pasco County in 2005. To remain aware of developments in her field, Dr. Luginbuehl maintains her affiliation in pertinent organizations, such as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry, and the National Association of School Psychologists.
In the realm of civic responsibility, Dr. Luginbuehl has had many church callings, coached little league soccer, worked as the secretary and the chairwoman of Action Youth Care Florida from 1993 to 1998, and has been a volunteer mental health counselor with the American Red Cross crisis teams as well as a local program for recovering victims of substance abuse. When she is not working diligently to help children and adults alike, she enjoys such pastimes as snow skiing, hiking, reading, gardening, and photography. Dr. Luginbuehl is happily married to her husband, Peter, and together, they are the proud parents of three children and 21 grandchildren.
