SANTA FE, NM, August 14, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Somers Randolph with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Randolph celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Randolph is a talented stone sculptor who has been physically chiseling away at solid rock, alabaster, soapstone, marble and granite for 40 years. His pieces are well recognizable by their unique curves, spirals and knots. Mr. Randolph's work can be found in major collections and museums worldwide, including private and corporate collections at locations such as Vanderbilt University, the Ford Foundation, Max Factor International, General Motors and the Tennessee State Museum. His sculptures have also been featured in exhibitions and galleries across the country from California to Florida. In recent years, his work has been exhibited at the Tom Ross Contemporary in 2012 and 2013, the San Francisco Museum of Art in 2010, and the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas in 2009.
Mr. Randolph established an award-winning line of silver and gold jewelry. His artwork has also won several Silver Design Awards at the Couture Show in Las Vegas in 2010, 2011 and 2012, some of which have been purchased by the princess of France and famous Hollywood stars, including Nicole Kidman and Bonnie Raitt.
Prior to being a self-sufficient artist, Mr. Randolph was a teacher. Once he became more established, he became active on the advisory board of the Nashville African American Art Association and as president of the board directors of the Visual Arts Association in Nashville. He is also a longtime member of Leadership Nashville, the Center for Contemporary Arts in New Mexico and the National Sculpture Association.
Honored with a Governor's Award for Community Service by the State of California in 1990, Mr. Randolph was also named Designer of Distinction by the Silver Institute in 2010. He has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World over the years as well.
Using a pocketknife since he was just 6 years old to sculpt, Mr. Randolph was initially inspired by his great uncle, Alfred Adams. A superior court judge in Nashville, TN, who sat behind a bench and whittled cedar, Mr. Randolph just felt compelled to carve. Years later, he met several experienced stone carvers, and by the age of 21, he knew that he wanted to follow that very same artistic path.
Born in Boston and raised in Washington, DC, by his parents Judson Graves and Susan Comfort, Mr. Randolph's father was a successful pediatric surgeon. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy for high school, graduating with high honors in 1974. Mr. Randolph then traveled to Pietrasanta, Italy, for a time before returning and studying at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design back in Washington, DC. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history at the prestigious Princeton University in 1979. He then spent 12 years in Santa Barbara, CA, and seven years in Nashville, TN, before settling down in Santa Fe, NM, in 1997.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Somers Randolph has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
