Having accrued a career of over 50 years, Dr. Swaim is currently a health officer in Parke County, Indiana. He is also president of Swaim Farm Corporation, established in 1998, and the president of Park Investments Incorporated in 1972. He further held an administrative post with the Parke County Coroner's Office from 1972 to 1982. He began his career as a medical director at Newport Chemical Depot in 1968, serving until 2010, and simultaneously found success as the medical director at Rockville Correctional Facility from 1970 to 1997.
Prior to his career journey, Dr. Swaim studied at Indiana State University, where he graduated, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science. He then attended Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1963. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice with an added certificate in geriatrics. Dr. Swaim considered his graduation from medical school to be his greatest achievement and is notable as the first doctor in his family.
Outside of his immediate professional responsibilities, Dr. Swaim is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. He is also an active member of the Indiana Medical Association, for which he was the district president in 1986. Additionally, Dr. Swaim is involved in the Hoosiers Associates Club, the Elks Lodge, and the Masonic Grand Lodge.
From 1963 to 1967, Dr. Swaim completed service as a captain in the United States Air Force. He was presented with the Bronze Star Medal and the Weinbaum Award from Union Hospital in 2010. Dr. Swaim accepted the Doc Hollywood Award in the following year and was inducted into the Rockville High School Hall of Fame in 2013.
