In addition to his primary role, he held a number of academic positions with the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, including co-director of the Family Bereavement Project, chair of the National Obesity and Weight Control Institute and chair of the American Institute for Life Threatening Illness.
Dr. Gullo is a former assistant clinical professor at the New York Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he also served as the chair of the professional advisory board of the American Institute for Life Threatening Illness, the co-chair of the International Conference on Children's Health, and the co-chair of the National Obesity Symposium. Furthermore, he has served as an expert witness for the New York City Council, a member of the scientific advisory committee of the American Institute for Cancer Research, and a member of the committee on grants and professional education for the New York City Region of the American Cancer Society.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Gullo has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the Foundation of Thanatology and the Rolls Royce Owners Foundation. A lifetime honorary member of the June & Julian Foss Foundation, he has served as the vice chair of the annual dinner for Boys Town Jerusalem and the associate chair of the annual dinner for Girls Town Jerusalem. Notably, Dr. Gullo holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gullo has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the Schoenberg Award from the American Institute for Life Threatening Illness, he is a Knight of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, a Patterson Foundation Fellow and a National Institutes of Health Research grantee.
