Ms. Kott is a financial counselor and community activist with more than 40 years of accomplishment in her field. She began her career as a manager for the Eastern region of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977. Ms. Kott is proud to have been the first woman working in management for the company. From 1979 to 1985, she found success as an independent insurance broker.
From 1987 to 2000, Ms. Kott excelled as a financial counselor for the cooperative extension service of the University of Maryland. In 1985, she accepted the post of the president of Kott & Associates Financial Counseling Service in Joppa, Maryland, where she continues to serve to this day with Michael L. Kott, CFO. She was inspired to enter financial counseling in order to help clients after witnessing the devastating effects of poor financial literacy firsthand as an insurance broker. Ms. Kott is driven by her personal value to share what she has with others, and considers financial counseling to be an aspect of her selflessness.
Ms. Kott is an active member of her community, having maintained her involvement as a director of Catholic prison ministry since 1983 and a lay minister since 1995. Furthermore, she is the commissioner of the Harford County Commission for Women and the vice president of the Joppa Friends of the Library from 1998 to 2002. Ms. Kott is also a member of Mensa International, and a charter member of the Hunt Valley Business and Professional Women's Club. She is affiliated with the Red Hat Society as a Queen, a post in which she enjoys coordinating social and cultural outings as well as charity outreach for her chapter.
