Having accrued almost 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Basquin found success first as assistant and then as associate for administration in the Print Study Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2000 to 2014. Previously, in 1999 and in 2000, she served as research associate at the Brooklyn Museum and in marketing at the William Doyle Galleries, auctioneers now called Doyle New York. She contributed to the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University as the curator of the "Marvin Lowe Retrospective" exhibit in 1998. Dr. Basquin has been active in the positions of assistant director of public relations at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1971 and 1972, the director of the Washington Gallery from 1972 to 1979, the director of the Kit Basquin Gallery from 1981 to 1983, and the curator of education for the Haggerty Museum of Art in from 1988 to 1995.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Basquin pursued an education at Goucher College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. She then completed coursework at Indiana University Bloomington and graduated with a Master of Arts in 1970. She concluded her academic efforts at the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, OH, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 2009.
Notably, Dr. Basquin was the Wisconsin editor of the New Art Examiner from 1980 to 1981. Currently, she is a member of the Saint Bart's Singers, a volunteer choir at Blessed Sacrament, and a soprano 1 in MasterVoices. She continues to provide articles to professional journals such as Narrative Magazine and Art in Print. She is the author of a forthcoming biography on pioneer animator, the late Mary Ellen Brute, of whom Dr. Basquin was a family friend. She is also working on her own memoir.
Outside of her immediate professional responsibilities, Dr. Basquin has been a volunteer member of the Ten Chimneys Foundation from 1997 to 1999 before joining their advisory board in 2000. Additionally, she was a member of the alumnae board for the Spence School in New York. Now retired, she remains involved with the James Joyce Society, and on the special events committee for the University Club of New York since 2016.
