Ms. Anderson retired from professional public librarianship in 1994. She served as County Librarian for San Bernardino County California from 1974 to 1994. Prior to this, she was Head of Readers Services, Riverside City and County Library system from 1972 to 1974, the Reference Coordinator for the Serra Regional Library System which covered San Diego and Imperial counties from 1969 to 1971. During that time she was also involved with developing cooperative bibliographic sharing among muIti-types of libraries - public, academic, governmental, and special. From 1964 to 1969 she was an Administrative Librarian with the U.S. Army, Europe. Beginning her professional career, she was a branch librarian with Los Angeles Public Library from 1955 to 1959, then as a librarian with the San Diego Public Library from 1959 to 1961.
Ms. Anderson received a B.S. from San Diego State University in 1954, a Masters' degree in Library Science from Kansas State Teachers' College (Emporia) in 1955 and has other graduate work in public administration at San Bernardino State University. She also served on the Advisory Board for the no longer in existence Graduate School of Library Science at the University of Southern California.
Ms. Anderson has been active in many professional organizations including the American Library Association, the California Library Association, the Black Caucus Library Association, the Congress of Public Library Systems, the California County Library Association, the international OCLC and the California Society of Librarians where she served as president. She was a delegate to the first White House Conference on Libraries and Information Science.
She was also active with the Business and Professional Women of San Bernardino, the San Bernardino Symphony Board, the Riverside Mental Health Board, the YWCA of San Bernardino Board and Service to the Blind and Dyslexic. She is a life member of the NAACP and several Friends of the Library organizations. She also received recognition from the National Association of Counties and has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who and Who's Who in the West.
