A compassionate doctor with a drive for assisting patients, she excelled as a resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (affiliated with Washington Univ. Medical Center, St. Louis, MO.) from 1981 to 1982, and in a similar capacity at Tufts Medical Center from 1982 to 1984. Likewise, Dr. Steinberg was for many years active as a reviewer at the Massachusetts Peer Review Organization. Dr. Steinberg also served as an instructor in medical diagnosis at Boston University Medical School.
Prior to the onset of her career, Dr. Steinberg pursued higher education with a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in 1976 and a Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University in 1980. She completed an internship at Lenox Hill Hospital from 1980 to 1981. Dr. Steinberg is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She was mentored and inspired by the example of Dr. Myles Behrens.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Steinberg remains aware of the changes and advancements in ophthalmology through relevant organizations. She a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Steinberg is the proud mother of four children and is married to Dr. Phillip M. Gendelman. In her free time, she enjoys reading, attending the theatre, studying languages, and traveling. Furthermore, she is director of an adult education program.
The proudest moment of Dr. Steinberg's career was saving a young girl's eye from blindness after diagnosing her accurately and quickly. For this decisive display and other examples of excellence, she has received a number of awards and accolades throughout her career. She was named one of Boston's Best Doctors by Boston Magazine and one of Massachusetts' Top Doctors. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Steinberg has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
