Ms. Turner began her career with a Bachelor of Science from McGill University in Montreal in 1949. She entered her field as research assistant in neurophysiology at the Allen Memorial Institute in Montreal, followed by research at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Finding herself drawn to science in high school, science has been present in almost every aspect of her life.
She established a career with the Gillette Co. in Boston from 1953 to retirement in 1989,
developing their first foaming shave cream (aerosol) formula. Technical support was provided to international divisions for local manufacture of all shave creams. On site assignments included England, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and Mexico. As Clearance Officer for the Latin American and Asia Pacific markets, technical information for all company products, was provided by Ms. Turner, to support product safety and performance claims, per company policy.
To keep abreast of developments in her field, she maintained professional affiliation with the American Chemical Society, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and as a technical consultant for Damon Biotech, after retirement. As President for the New England Chapter of Cosmetic Chemists, Ms. Turner represented the USA on the International Board of Directors, at the Fifth Congress, International Federation of Cosmetic Chemists meeting in Tokyo, Japan, May 12-17, 1968.
Civically, Ms. Turner has contributed science exhibits and information to the Children's Museum in Easton, MA. "When a school girl tells me she can't do math, I remind her than when she is baking, she is learning math and chemistry," she says. In addition to golf, sewing and portrait painting in retirement, Ms. Turner is learning how to live in this "digital age" with (Turner) grandchildren, Chris, Danielle, Amanda, Bob and Alicia, and (Kerr) nieces and nephews, Gordon, Natalie, Rob and Pamela, as her mentors!
