Accruing over 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Williams is currently retired, having worked as a member of the executive committee for the department of psychiatry in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota from 1999 to 2003. He previously excelled in the aforementioned department as a chairman of curriculum and an associate professor from 1978 1992. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Williams held the position of a senior research associate at the Palo Alto Mental Research Institute from 1974 to 1978 and a senior psychologist at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan from 1968 to 1974. He began his career as the owner of Social Systems Development from 1970 to 1978.
Dr. Williams initially pursued an education at Bradley University, earning a Bachelor of Science in psychology and biology in 1963. He completed additional coursework at the aforementioned university, obtaining a Master of Arts in psychology in 1964. He subsequently completed his studies at the University of Oklahoma, from which he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1968.
Having authored many articles for professional journals and chapters for books, Dr. Williams has been licensed as a psychologist in South Dakota, Colorado, and California. He is a noted member of the American Psychological Association and a fellow of the American Ortho-Psychiatry Association. A leader in his field, Dr. Williams has been affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
