Dr. Barath is a transplant cardiologist and medical consultant with more than 25 years of practiced experience in the field. He began his career by earning a Doctor of Medicine from Semmelweis University in Hungary in 1970. He subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy at the Academy of Science in Hungary in 1979. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiology and is a licensed physician in Hungary, as well as in the states of California and Illinois.
Dr. Barath was an assistant professor in the Biology Institute at Semmelweis University from 1970 to 1973 and an associate professor at the Postgraduate Medical School of Budapest from 1975 to 1986. In 1986, Dr. Barath immigrated to the United States, joining Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, as a research scientist from 1986 to 1989 and as director of the new device program from 1989 to 1995. From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Barath served as assistant professor of medicine at Loyola University Chicago in Illinois. Alongside his primary endeavors, he was an assistant professor at the Medical School of the University of California Los Angeles from 1989 to 1995 and sat on the board of directors of Interventional Technologies in San Diego.
Dr. Barath is the author of various chapters in several cardiology textbooks, as well as having had more than 40 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a 28-time patentee, having invented a local drug delivery system and a cutting balloon used in peripheral and coronary angioplasties. As a testament to his success, he was awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health in 1987 and the American Heart Association in 1991. Dr. Barath speaks five languages, and enjoys traveling and game hunting in his spare time.
