In her professional journey, she has held the position of a chairperson of the art department at Savanna High School in Anaheim from 1964 to 2001. Within that time, Ms. Mathews likewise held the position of a secondary teacher in the state of California between 1964 and 1994.
Prior to her professional journey, Ms. Mathews pursued an education at the University of California Long Beach. She completed additional coursework at the aforementioned university, from which she graduated with a Master of Arts in 1964. She was certified in biology in the state of California in 1972 and certified as a secondary teacher in California in 1964. In addition to her education, Ms. Mathews' career was greatly influenced by the notable artists Matt Smith and Terry Masters.
Notably, Ms. Mathews was recognized as one of Top 50 by Salon International in 2011. She was the recipient of the Oils Award at Rancho Mirage Art Affaire in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Additionally, Ms. Mathews was awarded first place at the La Quinta Art Festival and has had her work featured in numerous magazines on her career. Outside of her many career accomplishments, Ms. Mathews is an active member of professionally related organizations and dedicates her time and services to the California Art Club, the Desert Art Center, and Laguna Plein Air Painters.
