In 1971, Dr. Wood became a professor in the department of modern languages at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, where he would serve until being granted emeritus status in 2008.

Dr. Wood is a retired language educator with more than 50 years of distinguished service in the field. He attended St. Gregory the Great Seminary and Mount St. Mary's of the East Seminary, and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts from the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati. Realizing that he was not being called to ordination, Dr. Wood joined the United States Army. He served from 1955 to 1957, serving active duty in Korea. Upon returning to civilian life, he enrolled in the University of Cincinnati, completing his Master of Arts in 1960. Dr. Wood completed his education at Northwestern University, earning his Doctor of Philosophy in 1970.
From 1960 to 1962, Dr. Wood taught for the Forest Hills School District of Cincinnati. He joined Loyola University Chicago as an instructor from 1962 to 1967, and became an assistant professor at the University of Akron in Ohio from 1967 to 1971. In 1971, Dr. Wood became a professor in the department of modern languages at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, where he would serve until being granted emeritus status in 2008.
Dr. Wood is most proud of the work he has done in collaboration with other educators. He was a participant in Project Rendez-Vous, sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Paris in 1985; led a 1986 symposium at Heidelberg University in Germany; and served as a member of the Buffalo Second Language Acquisition Council from 1985 to 1989. He is the author of "Creating an Environment for Second Language Learning" in 1987, and a contributor to professional publications. Dr. Wood is the recipient of numerous awards for his work, including the 1985 Ferdinand D. Bartholo Award from the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers.
