Prior to his start in the digital media industry, Mr. Velsor had a very successful career of twelve years in broadcast advertising sales, beginning in New York City where he competed against hundreds of candidates to earn a place in the Petry Television Sales Training program and was later chosen from the entire Petry sales organization to lead an industry changing initiative at KPRC-TV/Houston. Mr. Velsor culminated in his advertising sales career with his position as National Sales Manager of WFAA-TV/Dallas, TX; the #1 ABC affiliate in the country, where he was responsible for annual budgets in excess of $22 Million, and received an award for his part in achieving the highest national sales revenue ever achieved in the station's history.
Mr. Velsor then transitioned to the digital media industry as Manager of Broadcast Business Development from 1999 to 2002 working for Mark Cuban's infamous Internet start-up company, broadcast.com, which was acquired by Yahoo! for $5.7 Billion. Mr. Velsor is credited for establishing an innovative sales model resulting in significant incremental revenue for the company while also growing their client base. Mr. Velsor then became Director of Business Development at AOL-Time Warner, Inc. from 2003 to 2009, where he was a senior deal maker, negotiating partnerships with Fortune 500 media and technology companies and was recognized with AOL's Business Development "Commitment to Excellence Award" in 2004 for his exemplary work.
Mr. Velsor then became co-founder and Vice President of Business Development for NuWallet Inc., a mobile payments technology company from 2010 until 2012, where he assisted the CEO in establishing partnerships with the Apple and Android mobile platforms. Mr. Velsor returned to his roots in television where he was recruited by Nexstar Broadcasting Media Group, Inc., one of the largest TV station ownership groups in the country, as the Vice President & Corporate Officer where he oversaw a newly created digital syndication arm, GoLocal.biz.
Mr. Velsor again found success as the Vice President of Broadcast Sales for the social media analytics start-up company, Share Rocket, Inc. from 2015 to 2017 where he worked alongside the executive staff in growing the client base from 10 to 91 TV stations, as well as assisting Share Rocket's CEO in obtaining Series A capital investment of $500,000.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Velsor pursued an education at St. John's University, College of Business Administration, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1984.
Outside of his career commitments, Mr. Velsor has donated his time and energy to his local community as well. Since 2017, he has been active as a volunteer with the Dallas-based nonprofit, Ability Connection, which serves individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Furthermore, Mr. Velsor was a member of the disaster action team with the American Red Cross of North Texas in 2014, and also assists the DFW Humane Society in pet adoption and caring for the animals since 2013.
