Professor Marjorie Girth has been presented with the Centennial Award for Professional Achievement from the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College.

Retired as professor emerita of the Georgia State University College of Law since 2009, Professor Girth led a prolific career as a law educator for more than 30 years. She began her career out of a private practice in Trenton, New Jersey, from 1963 to 1965, later accepting the position of a research associate with the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., between 1965 and 1970. Soon thereafter, she was hired by the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1970, where she worked as an associate professor, further progressing to the post of a full professor and an associate dean from 1971 until her departure in 1991. Moreover, Professor Girth excelled as the dean and a professor at the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta until her retirement in 2009.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Professor Girth contributed as a visiting professor and a scholar for the University of Virginia School of Law, the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute, Emory University School of Law, West Virginia University College of Law, the University of Warsaw (Poland) Law School's Center for American Law and the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. She has been involved with numerous commissions that have dealt with racial and ethnic bias in the court system, as well as equality, access and fairness in the courts. Civically, she has dedicated her time and efforts to the Feminist Women's Health Center, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo, the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, and the Meadville Lombard Theological School. A respected voice in the industry, Professor Girth's written works include "Poor People's Lawyers," "Bankruptcy Options for the Consumer Debtor," and "Bankruptcy: Problem, Process, and Reform."
A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Professor Girth earned a Bachelor of Arts from the aforementioned school in 1959. She subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University in 1962. To remain knowledgeable about developments in the fields of bankruptcy law and ethics and professionalism, Professor Girth maintains her affiliations with the American Law Institute, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Western New York Chapter of the New York State Women's Bar Association.
For her accomplishments in the field, Professor Girth has been the recipient of numerous honors and accolades. She has been presented with the Centennial Award for Professional Achievement from the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College, and both a Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement in Bankruptcy Law from Emory Law School's Bankruptcy Developments Law Journal. Likewise, Professor Girth has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
