Now retired, Ms. Florence Lynn Sandberg celebrates a career in nursing that has spanned four decades.

Now retired, Ms. Sandberg celebrates a career in nursing that has spanned four decades. Beginning as a registered nurse of medical surgery at the Swedish-American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois, in 1963, she subsequently held nursing positions at hospitals in Melbourne, Florida, and Chicago, was an assistant head nurse on the surgical floor at Rockford Memorial Hospital and was a registered industrial nurse for Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, Illinois. In 1971, Ms. Sandberg was hired as a nursing supervisor at Singer Mental Health Center in Rockford. Remaining at the Center for 32 years, she retired in 2002.
During her tenure in health care, it was at Singer Mental Health Center where Ms. Sandberg truly found her passion. Working as a psychiatric nurse for all those years, no two days were ever the same. It was a challenging work environment that always had her yearning for more.
Ms. Sandberg has been serving on the regional 1-A University of Illinois Council on Continuing Education in Rockford since 1983. She formerly served as a board member for the Post-Polio Support Group, as an arrangement chairman of the Nurses Expo, and as a member and chairman of the Personnel and Professional Power Coalition in Rockford. An alumnus of the Swedish-American Hospital School of Nursing, Ms. Sandberg acquired a diploma in 1963.
Ms. Sandberg is a member, past president and past board of directors member of the Illinois Nurses Association and a member and past secretary of the board of the Illinois Association of Psychiatric Nurses. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association, the Illinois Organization of Nurse Executives and the Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Sandberg has been featured in the fourth and fifth editions of Who's Who in American Nursing and the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
Since retirement, Ms. Sandberg has also been a member and chairperson of Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy for Human Rights Authority Counsel of Northern Illinois, advocating for disabled patients' rights and care.
