Mr. Thomas Boughton Silliman recently received a 2018 Broadcast Technology Society Service Award and the 2015 Jules Cohen Engineering Award from the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society.
CHANDLER, IN, September 30, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas Boughton Silliman, PE, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Silliman celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Silliman is a prominent figure who has been devoted to the field of electrical engineering for more than 55 years. Beginning his career at the age of 14, he worked in the office of his father's broadcast engineering consulting firm, Silliman, Moffett and Kowleski. Years later while in high school, Mr. Silliman began assisting his father in designing and making various components and began learning all about measurements and welding working for Electronics Research, Inc after his father, Robert Silliman, purchased that corporation. Taking over the company in 1962, he now serves as president.
For more than 65 years, ERI has served the broadcast industry, delivering products to meet all broadcast needs, both RF and structural. Founded during World War II in 1943 to develop antennas for military aircraft, Electronics Research, Inc. has continuously been on the cutting edge of RF research and development. Mr. Silliman notably works at the company headquarters in Chandler, Indiana, which is located on 100 acres of land and includes over 200,000 square feet of indoor manufacturing, design and office space.
Specializing in broadcast antennas, filters, transmission line, and towers, Mr. Silliman was responsible for building the original FM Master Antenna in Houston in 1971. That antenna which was mounted on top of the Shell Building in Houston operated for years as a shared antenna for nine Class C FM Stations. Years later, in 2000, he bid on a new project for the town, which would consist of a 2,000-foot tower with an FM antenna and combiner to replace the system on the Shell Building. Although he did not get that project, he later was awarded the contract to replace that system and install a new antenna and nine class C FM station combiners for Houston. Mr. Silliman is also credited with upgrading the Alford antenna on the Empire State Building to increase its power rating due to the Canadian Agreement, a project he enjoyed.
Besides his career in engineering, Mr. Silliman was trained as an iron worker. He also served as one of four guides for a kayak trip down the Grand Canyon. An alumnus of Cornell University, Mr. Silliman received both a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (a five year program) and Master of Engineering (Electrical) in electrical engineering in 1969 and 1970, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer in Indiana, Maryland and Minnesota, and is certified both as a tower climber and as a tower climber rescuer. Mr. Silliman is a member of the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers where he served two years as president. Throughout his career, he has contributed numerous papers through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in his area of expertise.
The recipient of several awards and recognitions, Mr. Silliman recently received a 2018 Broadcast Technology Society Service Award and the 2015 Jules Cohen Engineering Award from the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society. He also received a 2008 Lifetime Engineering Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Silliman has been featured in the fifth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. For more information, please visit www.eriinc.com.
