Between 2002 and 2008, Dr. Ferry served as a tenured associate professor in the division of pediatric endocrinology at UT Health San Antonio. Between 2008 and 2016, he served as tenured full professor and chief of the division of pediatric endocrinology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. While in Memphis, Dr. Ferry was medical director for pediatric endocrine services at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, and Regional One Health.
Over his career, Dr. Ferry has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He edited Management of Pediatric Obesity and Diabetes. Since its initial publication by Springer in 2011, this book has yielded over 24,660 chapter downloads. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Ferry is also a longstanding member of the Endocrine Society, Pediatric Endocrine Society, Society for Pediatric Research, and Association of the United States Army.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases granted Dr. Ferry its F32 Individual National Research Service Award in 1999 and its K08 Research Career Award from 2001 to 2007. The University of California at Los Angeles granted him a Stein-Oppenheimer Award in 2001. He received the Genentech Clinical Scholar award from the Pediatric Endocrine Society from 2003 to 2005. He was named to Top Doctors every year between 2012 and 2014. In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Ferry has previously been cited in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Ferry attained his bachelor of science degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale University in 1989. He obtained his doctor of medicine degree in 1994 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also completed his residency in pediatrics between 1994 and 1997 and served as chief resident from 1996 to 1997. After a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 1997 to 2000, he served two years on the pediatric endocrinology faculty in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Board certified in pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology and disaster medicine, Dr. Ferry has served as a Medical Corps officer for the Texas Army National Guard since 2004. He deployed twice to Iraq as an Army physician. He received his master's degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College in 2018 as a distinguished graduate.
