Having accrued over 60 years in her fields, Dr. Lederman currently holds the title of Professor Emerita at Baruch College of The City University of New York (CUNY). Before a brief time working as the Dean for Freshman Skills at LaGuardia Community College from l995-97, she held a number of positions at CUNY between l967 and 1998. She achieved great success as a Dean for Academic Affairs at CUNY's Board of Higher Education, a consultant to the Chancellor's SEEK Task Force and a Professor at Baruch College. Instructing students at the college bequeathed her with the most exciting years of her career, and Dr. Lederman regards it as the position where she contributed the most to her students. Additionally, she has held teaching positions at New York University, New York City Community College, and with the New York City Board of Education between the years 1957 and l985. Dr. Lederman received a Faculty Research Award from CUNY as well as a grant for the improvement of higher education.
Dr. Lederman began her initial studies at New York University, graduating magna cum laude in l957. She completed further coursework at Brooklyn College, receiving a Master of Science in English Education in l963. Returning to New York University as a Teaching Fellow, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in the Humanities in l966. Dr. Lederman's earlier education in high school was imperative to her career choices, and it was there that she found a passion for art and a desire to teach.
In addition to her teaching career, Dr. Lederman exhibited her early sculpture in group shows at Lever House, The Pen and Brush Club, Salmagundi Club, Pace University and New York Law School. She exhibited her later work in group shows in galleries and museums throughout the world, including Gallery H2O in Kyoto, Japan; the National Art Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria; the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, Scotland; and the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Lederman is a member of the National Association of Women Artists and served as a director of the American Medallic Sculpture Association from 2016-2019. From 1985 to 1988, she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jean Cocteau Repertory Theater in New York City. Dr. Lederman has authored over forty articles and chapters in books on higher education, literature, film and art.
