The daughter of a teacher, Ms. Genader felt drawn to the profession since early childhood. She fondly recalls following her mother into the classroom and helping prepare for her students, and being active as a peer tutor for classmates as early as first grade. Subsequently, she graduated from Jersey City State College with a Bachelor of Science in 1954. She earned a Masters Degree at William Paterson University in 1969. Ms. Genader is licensed by the state of New Jersey to teach elementary and special education.
From 1954 to 1959, Ms. Genader worked for the Pompton Lakes Board of Education. She relocated to Oakland, New Jersey, in 1959, where she taught for the Oakland Board of Education until 1963. She taught school in West Milford, New Jersey, from 1963, until her retirement from education in 1997. Ms. Genader is most proud of seeing her former students grow up and live happy, productive lives as members of their communities.
In addition to her career as an educator, Ms. Genader is a gifted musician, providing liturgical organ and piano music for churches for more than 70 years. At age 12, she was performing as an organist at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in West Milford from 1947 to 1967. She played for Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hewitt, NJ, from 1960 to 1987 and the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in West Milford from 1977 to 1992. Since 2013, Ms. Genader has been an organist for the parishioners of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Ringwood, NJ.
Ms. Genader was a freelance contributor for 10 New Jersey-based local publications for 60 years. She is currently the author of a weekly column in Suburban Trends, a USA Today-affiliated publication. She has been celebrated by West Milford Township for her work in the community, and by Passaic County for her contributions to education and local journalism. Notably, Ms. Genader was recognized as Passaic County's Teacher of the Year in 1990, and was the West Milford Teacher of the Year in 1990/1991. She was inducted to the Butler High School (Butler, NJ) Hall of Honor in 2018 and received The David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement award, presented by RT. Rev. Carlye J. Hughes, Episcopal Bishop of Newark in 2019.
