Mr. Carlisle is a lawyer and educator with more than 45 years of accomplishment in his field. He initially pursued an education at the University of California, Los Angeles, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. In 1969, he graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California Davis, and completed postgraduate coursework at Columbia University between 1969 to 1970. Mr. Carlisle was admitted to practice law by the New York State Bar Association in 1970.
From 1970 to 1971, Mr. Carlisle worked as the assistant trial counsel to ITT of Hartford, Connecticut, and an associate at Bigbee, Bryd, Carpenter, & Crout of Santa Fe, New Mexico, from 1971 to 1973. He operated out of his private law practice between 1973 to 1975 before beginning his career in academia as an assistant dean in the faculty of law at the State University of New York, where he would remain until 1978. From 1978 to 2016, Mr. Carlisle ascended from an assistant professor to a professor of law at Pace University, where he also served on several administrative committees.
Mr. Carlisle has been active as a lecturer for the New York State Bar Association since 1988, the New York State Trial Lawyers Institute since 1989, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York since 2000. Since 2016, he has been a professor emeritus of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, and the senior counsel at the firm of Halpern, Newberg, and Nolletti of White Plains, New York. Mr. Carlisle is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and a referee for the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct, a position in which he has flourished since 1999.
Mr. Carlisle was appointed as the commissioner of the New York State Law Revision Commission in 2009. Among many other accolades, he is the recipient of a 2015 Leaden in Public Service Award from the New York Law Journal. Moreover, Mr. Carlisle was presented with a 2017 Distinguished Pace Law School Award.
