Ms. Lawer is the board chair and chief executive officer of First National Bank of Alaska in Anchorage. As a third-generation Alaskan banker, her long and distinguished career in the field began as a student of her father. She has since been responsible for shaping the vision, mission and goals of the bank, a role that she has been working toward since she first began in the industry in 1974. A former board director, and a member of the audit committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Ms. Lawer also held board director roles with Commonwealth North, Providence Health Care Foundation and Advisory Boards and the 12th District Federal Reserve. She has been serving in an active capacity on the Smithsonian National Board since 2008.
In 2005, Ms. Lawer took on another role as the president of the Lawer Family Vineyard Properties and Winery. A winery and vineyard originally established in the small city of Calistoga in California's Napa Valley in 2003, Lawer Estates is now being run by Ms. Lawer, her husband David, extended family and a team of experienced vineyard managers, viticulturists and winemakers. Committed to sustainable farming and excellence in their grape growing and winemaking, the estate also boasts several vacation rental properties on-site, all of which feature panoramic views, pools and a lush landscape in a private setting. She is honored that wines made by her team have earned more than their fair share of Gold Medals.
Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Ms. Lawer received a Bachelor of Arts in economics at Duke University. Ms. Lawer is a member of the Anchorage ATHENA Society, which is a program of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce that works year-round to encourage the potential of all women as valued members and leaders of the business community. Ms. Lawer was honored by the ATHENA Society in 2001 with an Athena Award.
In 2019, Ms. Lawer was named to the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame. She was formerly named Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Laureate by Alaska Business in 2007, One of 25 Women to Watch by U.S. Banker in 2003 and to the Top 25 Most Powerful Alaskans by Alaska Journal Commerce in 1999 and every year thereafter until it stopped in 2003. She also received three Alaskan State Legislative certificates. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Lawer has been featured in more than 40 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in the World.
