Mr. Eie is a retired sales management executive with more than 25 years of distinguished service for the Scandinavian Airline System. A native of Flekkefjord, Norway, and a member of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, he immigrated to the United States in 1952, and was naturalized in 1954. He completed an Army leadership course and graduated with distinction from the Heilbronn Army Education Center in 1954.
His lifelong passion for meeting new people and a desire to travel led him to a career in sales and management for the Scandinavian Airline System, where he began in 1952 as a member of ticket counter staff based in New York City. By 1964, he had risen to sales manager, and in 1965, Mr. Eie relocated to Seattle to become district sales manager for the Scandinavian Airline System. In 1970, he became the airline's Northwestern area manager, a role he would hold until his retirement in 1991. He was also an adviser to the Valle Scholarship and Scandinavian Exchange Program for approximately ten years starting in 1980.
In 1990, Mr. Eie was named an honorary vice-consul by the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Washington, D.C., and he has received numerous medals and awards for his contributions to cultural exchange and diplomatic ties between the United States, Norway and Sweden. Among other honors, he is a Decorated Knight of the Order of the Polar Star, a Knight of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, and has been recognized by the city of Seattle, Washington, who designated May 15 as Leif Eie Day. He is a founder of the National Nordic Museum in Seattle, and co-founder of the Seattle Sister Cities Program, which helps sponsor arts programs exchange between designated sister cities. He is proud to have brought a theater production to Bergen, Norway, under the auspices of the program.
Mr. Eie is a member of the Sons of Norway, the Norwegian Seamen War Veterans, and a member of the honorary board of directors of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce. In his retirement, he enjoys playing guitar, composing music and salmon fishing. In light of all his accomplishments, he has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
