Retired after more than 50 years of distinction in his field, Dr. Wiseman found much success as an esteemed chemistry professor. His interest in chemistry began in childhood, after receiving a chemistry set as a gift, and was furthered by the support of a dynamic high school chemistry teacher Mr. Jessie Ridgeway. He initially pursued an education at Bridgewater College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. Subsequently, Dr. Wiseman earned a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Wiseman considers the highlight of his career to be the day he decided to become a teacher. He excelled for the majority of his career at Georgetown College, where he eventually ascended to the post of the chairman of the chemistry department, and accepted the Cawthorn Teaching Award in 1989. Dr. Wiseman was granted emeritus status by the aforementioned school in 2009 and formally retired in 2014.
In 2006, Dr. Wiseman was the recipient of the Carnegie Foundation United States Professor of the Year Award. He is the author of two college-level chemistry textbooks, and has been a member of the American Chemical Society since 1962. Dr. Wiseman is significantly involved in local development politics, and is active as a commissioner on the Scott County Planning and Zoning Board and the Scott County Soil Conservation board. In his retirement, Dr. Wiseman enjoys growing corn, hay, and hops, as well as hunting.
