Now retired, Dr. Martin led a prolific career as a family physician for nearly four decades. Prior to the start of his profession, he pursued a formal education and earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University in 1958. Five years later, Dr. Martin secured a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Louisville.
Consequently, he accepted the position of a rotating intern from the University of Louisville General Hospital from 1963 to 1964. Furthermore, Dr. Martin excelled as a physician for his private practice in Bowling Green between 1964 and 2002. During this time, he also served as an Associate Professor at the University of Louisville of Family Medicine as well as the team physician for the Western Kentucky Team Physician. The highlight of Dr. Martin's career was being of assistance to his patients in the 38 years in which he has practiced.
Dr. Martin was drafted into the United States Army, where he was assigned to the 18th Surgical Hospital, later traveling to the Pleiku province of the Republic of Vietnam. He remained in the armed forces from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1967. A founding diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, he is also the author of "Soldiers Saving Soldiers: Vietnam Remembered, A History of the 18th Surgical Hospital," and "Symbols and Myths of Medicine: Staff of Asclepius, Staff of Hermes/Mercury."
A fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, he also maintains lifetime affiliation with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. Previously, he contributed as the president of the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians (KAFP) and was honored as the Doctor of the Year by the organization in 1990. An exceptional Marquis listee, Dr. Martin has been featured in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Now retired, he currently resides in Bowling Green and is the proud father of three adult children.
