Dr. Janice Bush earned the Golden Apple Award for Student Achievement through the state of Michigan, which she considers to be the highlight of her career.

After accruing 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Bush retired from her role as principal of Detroit Public Schools Community District in 2004. Earlier in her career, she started with the district as a teacher before taking on such roles as teacher coordinator, instructional specialist and assistant principal. Over the years, she has also gained valuable expertise through board positions with IN Site, Wayne State University and Ellevate Network, formerly known as the Professional Women's Network. Civically, she currently serves as a deacon, Christian education teacher and parliamentarian. Her professional affiliations includes Phi Delta Kappa, Pi Lambda Theta, Delta Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma Phi.
Prior to starting in the field, Dr. Bush obtained a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Western Michigan University. Upon gaining professional experience, she returned to school to earn a Master of Arts in educational leadership and a Doctor of Education in supervision and administration from Wayne State University. A certified teacher and administrator in the state of Michigan, she attributes her success to the encouragement of her parents and the administrative leadership of several mentors.
Her sponsorship of student teachers from Michigan universities (Eastern Michigan, University of Detroit, University of Michigan and Wayne State University) during her career was a valuable contribution to future generations of students.
Throughout her career, she has been recognized many times, earning the Golden Apple Award for Student Achievement through the state of Michigan, which she considers to be the highlight of her career, and features in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. In the near future, Dr. Bush intends to continue enjoying her retirement.
