Dr. Young received an honorable mention in the Westinghouse Science Talent search in 1955. Dr. Young graduated from Colgate University in 1959 and earned an AB. Dr. Young went to the State University of New York—Downstate where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1963 and was licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York in 1964. Following this accomplishment, he completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at the Kings County Hospital Center in New York City between 1963 and 1965—then became the Co-Chief Resident of Pediatrics at University Hospital, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY in 1966. Dr. Young served in the United States Air Force as a Captain and physician at Amarillo Air Force Base. After serving his county, Dr. Young then continued his training as a fellow in allergy and clinical immunology at the National Jewish Hospital and the University of Colorado in Denver from 1968 to 1970. He later became a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics in 1968 and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology in 1972 (The Conjoint Board of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics).
With over 40 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Young worked in private practice in allergy, clinical immunology as well asthma care from 1970 to 2013. During this time, he was affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, where he was the Chief of Allergy in Pediatrics from 1973 to 1989 as well as Chief of Allergy in the Department of Internal Medicine from 1975 to 1988. He was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics and internal medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and currently continues as an assistant clinical professor of internal medicine and immunology and an associate clinical professor of pediatrics.
Having wanted to be a doctor for as long as he can remember, Dr. Young felt that pursuing a career in medicine was his calling. He chose to specialize in allergy and immunology because of his family's history with allergies. Quickly becoming an expert in his field, Dr. Young notably coauthored "Allergies: The Complete Guide to Diagnosis, Treatment and Daily Management" and "The Asthma Handbook: A Complete Guide for Patients and Their Families." Dr. Young as editor-in-chief published the medical textbook, "The Psychobiological Aspects of Allergic Disease." Dr. Young has published numerous scholarly papers concerning allergy, clinical allergy and asthma.
For excellence in his career, Dr. Young has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades over the years. Named one of the Top Doctors by New York Magazine, he also received the Top Doctor Award from Castle Connolly for 10 years. Notably, he was recognized with an award for 15 years of teaching by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, something he considers to be a career highlight. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Young has previously been featured in the 67th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America.
Starting in 2001 Dr. Young began to work in forensic medicine as an expert witness for the defense in cases involving torts in allergy and clinical immunology. He currently works in that field and is most known for his work for the defense in alleged indoor mold, dampness, and environment induced issues.
