After accruing more than three decades of practiced experience in the field, Mr. Miles retired from the industry as an engineer with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in 2012. He started with the company in 1980 as an associate engineer in aircraft design, and over the course of his career, he has worked through such roles as engineer and senior engineer in aircraft design, group engineer, specialist engineer, and senior specialist engineer. Throughout his vocation, he has worked on a variety of projects, including the SAE-A-6 military aircraft and helicopter panel from 1987 to 1991 and 2009 to 2011, and the SAE-A-10 aircraft oxygen equipment committee from 1996 to 2010.
Prior to beginning a life-long career with Lockheed Martin, Mr. Miles earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology from Kennesaw State University in 1977. He subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at Troy State University from 1978 to 1980. In order to remain aware of recent developments within the industry, Mr. Miles has maintained affiliation with the American Society for Testing and Materials, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Wick's Lake Homeowners Association, where he served as president in 1995. Notably, he was the recipient of an associate fellowship through the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Miles has accrued several accolades throughout the course of his illustrious career. Tau Kappa Epsilon has honored him with Key Leader in 1985, Southern Order of Honor in 1989, the Education Foundation Medal of Excellence in 2002, the Order of the Silver Maple Leaf in 2009, and the Order of the North in 2017, the Order of the Golden Eagle in 2019, among others. Looking toward the future, Mr. Miles intends to continue enjoying his retirement.
