At the start of his illustrious career, Dr. Gomez worked as a teacher and a counselor for San Bernardino City Schools, between 1971 and 1976. He later joined San Bernardino Valley College as a human relations coordinator in 1976, further progressing to the roles of a counselor, professor, and coordinator of counseling until his departure in 1987. Moreover, Dr. Gomez accepted the position of an assistant dean of student services for Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, in 1987.
As he progressed within the institution, Dr. Gomez held the post of dean of student services and the acting president of, before concluding his tenure with the college as its president in 2000. In addition to his primary endeavors, he also contributed as a lecturer for California State University, San Bernardino, between 1976 and 1981, and as a member of the advisory board from 1987 to 1995. A published author, Dr. Gomez published a memoir titled "Beneath the Dust of Slover Mountain: The Saga of Ambrosio Gomez y Salazar."
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Gomez pursued a formal education at California State Poly and completed coursework between 1959 and 1965. A short time later, he graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, further receiving a Master of Arts in 1975. Dr. Gomez concluded his academic efforts with a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California in 1987.
For his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Gomez has been declared a "Living Legend" by the Assistance League of San Bernardino in 1997, and was selected as a "Distinguished Alumnus" of California State University, San Bernardino, in 1991. A member of the San Bernardino Valley College Faculty Association, he also maintains his professional relationships with the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges, and the San Bernardino Community College District Management Association. Now retired, Dr. Gomez enjoys such diversions as photography and treasure hunting in his spare time.
