With over 60 years of achievements in chemistry and consulting, Dr. Swink is a distinguished consultant in the chemical manufacturing industry. Fascinated by chemistry as a high school student, he began his career by pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Wichita State University in Kansas in 1957 and a Master of Science from Iowa State University in 1959. During his time at Iowa State University, he contributed to work on solving crystal structures and microcrystalline analysis, which he cites as a career highlight. Dr. Swink served as a nuclear research officer in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1963, rising to the rank of captain before being honorably discharged.
Dr. Swink concluded his academic career at Brown University in Rhode Island, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1969. While in the doctoral program at Brown University, he studied with chemistry professor Gene B. Carpenter, whom he cites as a significant influence on his professional development. Upon graduation, Dr. Swink began a career with Texas Instruments, serving as a laboratory manager from 1966 to 1978 before becoming vice president of research for Amorphous Materials Inc. from 1978 to 1980.
After serving as an advanced systems manager for the Xerox Corp. from 1981 to 1982 and a senior project manager at Siemens from 1986 to 1987, Dr. Swink leveraged his expertise to transition into consulting. He became president of AZ/TEC Consulting in 1989, working in Tempe, Arizona, area until 1999, when he relocated to Enid. His desire to use his decades of experience with chemistry and industrial research to help companies adapt to ISO 9000 standards was a major driver in his decision to become a consultant. He has now retired and resides in Enid, Oklahoma with his wife, Mary Ellen Beach. In his leisure time, Dr. Swink enjoys golf and is an active member of the Central Christian Church of Enid.
