With more than 35 years of service in his field to his credit, Mr. Washburn is now retired as a secondary school educator. Inspired by his own mathematics and science teachers, he pursued an education at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1969 and a Master of Science in mathematics in 1970. From 1970 to 1972, Mr. Washburn served his country by enlisting in the United States Army.
From 1969 to 1970, Mr. Washburn worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. In 1972, he began his tenure with Antilles Consolidated Schools in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, where he would teach mathematics until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Washburn is proud to have been elected as the president of his teachers association and has been involved in contract negotiations for much of his career.
Mr. Washburn is a member of the Mathematics Association of America and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. A ham radio operator, he enjoys electronics, woodworking and playing the organ in his retirement. Moreover, Mr. Washburn was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in American Education.
