With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Mott was a sociology instructor at Palo Alto College from 1991 to 2010. Prior to obtaining this role, she was an assistant instructor at Southwest Texas State University from 1980 to 1982. Earlier in her career, Dr. Mott was the director of sales at the Lackland Air Force Base Arts and Crafts Center from 1972 to 1977, having been an instructor of ceramics with the organization since 1969.
Dr. Mott first pursued an education with Southwest Texas State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1980. She continued her studies with the school, completing a Master of Arts in 1982. Dr. Mott later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in comparative religions. She has been certified as an instructor of ceramic arts by the National Ceramic Art Institute.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. Mott has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. The former vice president, president, and a poet laureate of the San Antonio Poets Association, she is a member of the International Society of Poets and the Clipper Ship Poets. Dr. Mott has also been active with the San Antonio Ethnic Arts Society, the San Antonio Poetry Festival, and the Alamo Area Poets. In addition to participating in these organizations, Dr. Mott's works have been published in worldwide poetry journals. She also has had her own book of poetry "Screaming Silences" published. She co-authored a book of activities to be used in Social Science college classes.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mott has been recognized for her contributions, including serving five times as Coordinator of Family Services Volunteers at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She was thrice named Volunteer of the Month, as well as Volunteer of the Quarter four times and Lackland Volunteer of the Year. She then competed with eight other volunteers from other bases in Air Training Command and was then named ATC's Volunteer of the Year. Dr. Mott has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
