Dr. Schroer-Lamont is a higher education administrator and counselor with more than 35 years of distinction in her field. Inspired by her high school language teachers, she decided to pursue a career in education. She initially graduated from Defiance College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1967 before earning a Master of Arts at Washington State University in 1972. Dr. Schroer-Lamont subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Northern Colorado in 1977.
From 1967 to 1968, Dr. Schroer-Lamont began her career as a foreign language teacher at Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She later worked as a French language and culture teaching assistant at Washington State University from 1968 to 1970 before relocating to New York State, where she became the director of career development and counseling at Houghton College from 1974 to 1981. She refocused her career on counseling after realizing a passion for helping students address academic and developmental issues in their personal lives, and flourished as a university counseling psychologist at Texas A&M University from 1981 to 1985. Dr. Schroer-Lamont found success as the associate dean of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, from 1985 until her retirement in 2005.
A scholar-in-residence at the Center for Women's Research at the University of Oslo, Norway, in 1996, Dr. Schroer-Lamont has served as a resource for various campaigns focused on women, including the Virginia Governor's Task Force on Campus Sexual Assault and the Virginia Network for Women Leaders. She is a founding member of the Rockbridge Area Coalition against Sexual Assault, where she remained active from 1990 to 1997. A lifelong musician, Dr. Schroer-Lamont has further performed around the world as a part of the Washington and Lee University Wind Ensemble.
