With more than 40 years of professional experience to her credit, Dr. Ryan has excelled as a nurse practitioner for the Buffalo VA Medical Center in New York, since 2018. At the start of her career, she worked for the aforementioned institution as a staff nurse in 1976, further progressing to a community referral nurse coordinator and nurse practitioner until her departure in 2001. A certified family nurse practitioner, adult gerontological primary care nurse practitioner and a certified public health nurse specialist, Dr. Ryan became an assistant professor at St. John Fisher College and later associate professor at Daemen College until 2018.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Ryan was proud to have received a grant from the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council. The grant allowed her to work with people with developmental disabilities and enhance their interests in their ability to exercise. While she enjoys seeing her patients, what Dr. Ryan also finds extremely rewarding is teaching undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Alongside her primary endeavors, she served as a nurse practitioner for Buffalo Heart Group Trinity Cardiology, and the private practices of Dr. Nora Meaney-Elman as well as Dr. Frederick Piwko. Civically, she has contributed as a volunteer site visitor for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
Prior to embarking on her illustrious career, Dr. Ryan pursued a formal education at D'Youville College in Buffalo, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976. Four years later, she secured a Master of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York, further concluding her studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from the University at Buffalo in 2010. A certified adult nurse practitioner, she also holds certifications in adult-gerontology, nurse education and family practice. To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Ryan is affiliated with The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Ryan has been awarded numerous honors and accolades. A recipient of the Carol Sinicki Manuscript Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators, she was also presented with a first place award from the 11th Annual Discharge Planning Symposium, and a Proficiency Medal in Nursing, among others. An exceptional Marquis listee, Dr. Ryan has also been featured in various editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who of American Women.
