Ms. Marjorie Keppel Gross was honored by her peers with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997.

A mathematics educator with more than 50 years of experience teaching at colleges throughout Ohio, New York, Kentucky, and North Carolina, Ms. Gross retired from her profession in 2010. Previously, she provided 25 years to the staff of Carteret Community College in Morehead City. During her tenure in academia, she notably served as an acting mathematics department chairman while teaching at Western College in Oxford, Ohio. In addition to her teaching career, Ms. Gross has been a small business owner of Beacon of Opportunity in Newport since 1997.
Early in her career, Ms. Gross contributed her expertise on the advisory board of the Department of Agriculture Extension Office, home maker's division, in Cadiz, Ohio. She served in this capacity for four years between 1975 and 1979. Ms. Gross also edited her first book, which was authored by a friend, titled "Giving Thanks in All Things: Prayers by a Person with a Brain Tumor."
Ms. Gross received a Bachelor of Arts, with magna cum laude honors, from Western College (Ohio) in 1963 and a Master of Arts from Miami University (Ohio) in 1965. She also completed postgraduate work at the University of Cincinnati between 1971 and 1973. Originally a mathematics major in college, Ms. Gross received a two-year teaching assistantship at Miami, whereupon she discovered a passion for teaching adults. Following her retirement from teaching in 2010, Ms. Gross became a Certified Productive Environment Specialist and currently serves in an administrative role with Productive Environment Institute.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Gross maintained her affiliation with such organizations as the North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges and the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Presently, she is actively involved as a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit conservation and education organization dedicated to tree planting. She is also an ordained elder, choir member and adult Sunday school teacher at her church. Ms. Gross was honored by her peers with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been featured in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
