In a career filled with several highlights, Ms. Maili Megler Malvre is most proud of being able to alter the lives of some of her most difficult students.

DANVILLE, CA, November 05, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Maili Megler Malvre with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Malvre celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A native of Tallinn, Estonia, Maili Megler Malvre relocated to the United States in 1950 from a displaced person's camp in West Germany. Because of Soviet occupation, she could return to Estonia and became a U. S. citizen in 1955. She graduated with honors from California State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and received a Teaching Credential in English and Foreign Languages in 1970. She is fluent in English, Estonian and German. She has also studied Spanish and Italian, gaining a reading knowledge in both. Between 1975 and 1985, she completed postgraduate coursework at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on English composition, and at St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA, with a focus on art and art history. In 1970 she began her career as a teacher of English in the Pleasanton School District, CA, teaching students of all levels of ability, from the gifted in Advanced Placement English to the learning disabled and remedial, until her retirement in 1996. In the years since, Ms. Malvre has excelled as a freelance artist in Danville, CA.

In 1987, during the Gorbachev glasnost period, Maili and her husband Olavi were able to visit Estonia for the first time. They were extremely fortunate to have influential relatives in the Soviet Estonia, with whom they were able to travel in Russia and Ukraine freely and independently, seeing the decaying Soviet Empire in a way that few foreigners are allowed. They traveled by train, visiting Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Moscow, Kiev, Riga, mingling with ordinary Soviet citizens, and moving freely in cities and countryside. They even passed through the area of Chernobyl contamination in the Ukraine that the Soviet authorities still tried to hide. Once back home in California, she was asked to speak of her experiences on several occasions.

In 1989 Maili was invited to an international teacher's conference in Soviet Estonia where she was the keynote speaker, addressing a large audience of Estonian teachers and educators in fluent Estonian. Her speech on curriculum renewal was broadcast all over Estonia and beyond. This event led her to a cooperative venture between the Estonian education establishment and the California State Curriculum Council. As a member of the California English Liaison Committee, Maili had access to curriculum guides in all fields, from kindergarten to senior high school, that she was able to "smuggle" to the official Soviet Estonian Curriculum Development Center in Tallinn, facilitating the elimination of Red propaganda based curriculum to an up to date Western subject matter curriculum once Estonia became free in 1991. She continued to work with Estonian teachers for several more years.

A noted speaker in her field, Ms. Malvre has served as a deacon for Peace Lutheran Church in Danville, CA, an art therapist with the Guardian Rehabilitation Hospital in San Ramon, CA, and a volunteer docent with Tao House National Park Service in Danville, CA. To remain aware of changes in the field, she maintains affiliation with the Alamo-Danville Artists Society and the Friends of Filoli. A testament to her success, Ms. Malvre has been presented with the Volunteer Service Award from the Guardian Rehabilitation Hospital in 2001 and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Dublin High School in California in 1985.

In a career filled with several highlights, Ms. Malvre is most proud of being able to alter the lives of some of her most difficult students. She was happy to reach them and provide them with knowledge for a whole year. Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Malvre enjoys history, writing, traveling, photography and reading in her spare time.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Malvre has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
