She initially pursued an education at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. Ms. McCabe additionally holds licenses to teach in Colorado, Texas, Washington, and Montana.
From 1969 to 1976, Ms. McCabe worked as a public school teacher serving districts throughout Colorado. She further taught physical education and worked for the CSU Extension Service as a 4-H Youth Extension Agent from 1971 to 1979. From 1980 to 1997, Ms. McCabe served as an elementary teacher for several Texas public schools.
Ms. McCabe returned to Colorado in 1997, where she taught elementary-aged students until 2001. She has notably taught at the elementary level in Washington since 2001, and in Montana since 2011. Likewise, Ms. McCabe found success as a teacher trainer and facilitator for the Texas Education Agency, as a former member of the Library Board of Paducah, Texas, as a Band Director of Auxiliary Unit, as a women's coach for various sports, and as a Colorado State Volleyball Official and board member.
Ms. McCabe has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including recognition from the Colorado Department of Education for her students' outstanding performance on CSAP tests and a school's overall school program. She was also presented with a Commendation from the United States Forest Service for her work developing educational programs. Passionate about the outdoors, Ms. McCabe is a former firefighter and enjoys camping, hiking, bridge and reading in her spare time.
