Mr. Rodriguez' interest in art began as a child, when he learned to use art as a way of soothing himself during asthma attacks. He began his studies with a period of independent research at the University of Innsbruck in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1969. Returning to the United States, he embarked on his art teaching career at the Emerson School in New York City from 1970 to 1972. Mr. Rodriguez completed his education in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City.
An academic instructor at the James Baldwin School in New York City from 1975 to 1977, Mr. Rodreiguez served as an artist instructor in residence at the Studio in a School and as a guest teacher at the Metropolitan Area Educational Services in New York City from 1979 to 1981. From 1978 to 1986, he was a visual arts specialist at camps throughout New York and New Jersey, and was the senior art instructor at the Jewish Guild for the Blind in New York City from 1987 to 1988. An art instructor for St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City from 1984 to 1993, he later returned to that role from 2010 to 2014. In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Rodriguez has been a working fine artist and the owner of the E. A. Rodriguez Co., which operated from 1990 to 2005.
Mr. Rodriguez' work is represented in institutional permanent collections throughout New York City and he has also had one-man shows featured at such locations as the St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City in 1984. In light of all his accomplishments, he was named a Max Beckmann fellow in 1968 and was the recipient of a Change Inc. grant in 1975. He is a member of the International Society of Poets, the Saks Fifth Avenue President's Executive Club, and the New York Academy of Sciences. In his leisure time, Mr. Rodriguez enjoys reading, travel, painting, boating, international study, and fishing, and he is an avid patron of the fine arts.
