Ms. Lorenda Sue Byrd is proudest of obtaining her bachelor's degree in nursing from McKendree College.
FESTUS, MO, November 08, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lorenda Sue Byrd, RN, BSN, MSN, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Byrd celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Interested in helping others from a young age, Ms. Byrd has become a leading figure in the nursing industry since the inception of her career in 1962. Commencing her career as a staff nurse at Charleston Community Hospital, a role she held for three years subsequent to obtaining her diploma from the Methodist Hospital Central Illinois School in Peoria, she proceeded to serve as a faculty member at the Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in Bloomington, Illinois, from 1966 to 1976. Following this appointment, Ms. Byrd worked as the head nurse of the emergency room at Belleville Memorial Hospital until 1980, and from 1980 until 1986, she excelled as a nurse manager in the medical-surgical and oncology department at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center.
During her tenure at Saint Elizabeth, Ms. Byrd obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McKendree College in 1981. She served as a marketing professional at International Clinical Laboratories for one year. In Saint Louis, she was associate director of patient services at Alexian Brothers Hospital between 1988 and 1991. During this time, Ms. Byrd furthered her education and received a Master of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1990.
Remaining in Saint Louis, Ms. Byrd became the director of nursing at Saint Joseph Hospital-West from 1991 to 1996 and the vice president of patient services at Saint Joseph Hospital in Saint Charles between 1996 and 1997. In the latter stages of her career, she served Lucy Lee Healthcare Systems in Poplar Bluffs as the chief nursing officer from 1998 until 2000 and Three Rivers Healthcare as the chief nursing officer from 2000 to 2001. Prior to her retirement in 2008, Ms. Byrd maintained activity as the chief nursing officer of Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus for seven years.
In a career suffused with highlights, it is difficult to pick just one. However, Ms. Byrd is proudest of obtaining her bachelor's degree in nursing from McKendree College, especially considering that she was an adult student with children during this time. Immensely gratified for having succeeded in her goals, she decided to progress forward with academia and earn a master's degree, which became the foundation of her future accomplishments in the field.
Ms. Byrd is a former member of multiple organizations, including the Saint Louis Council of Nurse Executives, where she previously served as the president-elect. She is also a past secretary and member on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Lake Saint Louis, as well as a past member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and Missouri Organization of Nurse Executives. Notably, Ms. Byrd served as the secretary in 1995 and the president-elect in 1996 of her local Rotary Club.
Ms. Byrd has further maintained membership with Sigma Theta Tau since 1980. A registered nurse in Illinois and Missouri and certified nursing administrator through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she also served as a member of the "We Can 2000" Community Organization in Wentzville, Missouri, in the mid-1990s. Married to her husband Larry since 1984, Ms. Byrd has four children and four grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
