Ms. Jessup has achieved a laudable reputation as the owner and general manager of Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, having grown up in the dude ranch industry since childhood. Her parents, Maurice and Mayme Jessup, purchased the little Ranch on the Big Thompson in 1946. It has grown from 125 acres to 3,000 acres and hosts good folks year-round for vacation stays, weddings, corporate retreats, and special events.
A secluded treasure 7 miles west of Loveland, Colorado, is a gem of the Rocky Mountain foothills. Guests from all over the world come to experience the western life-style and the freedom to roam. The sound of the dinner bell promises wholesome meals with fresh garden vegetables and home baking.
Ms. Jessup attended The University of Northern Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and Spanish. She taught Spanish in Boulder, Colorado, and spent a year teaching first grade at the American Cooperative School in La Paz, Bolivia, before the flood of 1976 brought her back home to the Ranch to help her parents rebuild. She never looked back.
After her Dad's passing in 1993, Ms. Jessup took the reins. While raising her two children, Andy and Lisa, she assumed the responsibility of running the Ranch, raising cattle and horses and caretaking the needs of guests. She and her brother David have protected 70% of their land with perpetual conservation easements to prevent development and secure a home for wildlife and visitors for future generations.
Ms. Jessup has been acknowledged over the years as an icon in the Loveland community. She has served on the board of the Colorado Dude and Guest Ranch Association, and has donated to many non-profits, most recently The Heart-J Center for Experiential Learning. Ms. Jessup was presented the Loveland 2006 Bravo Entrepreneur of the year award. In 2018 BizWest Media, LLC, recognized Ms. Jessup as "Leading Lady" of Northern Colorado Women of Distinction.
Sylvan Dale once again suffered from catastrophic flooding in 2013. Through the help and encouragement of community leaders, past guests, friends and family the Ranch was able to recover. With half of its former capacity, it re-opened its gates in June of 2014 to welcome folks from across the globe to experience the magic of Sylvan Dale.
In accounting for her success, Ms. Jessup credits her passion and resilience to her parents who shared a dream and made it come true. Their strong work ethic and their joy in sharing the beauty of Sylvan Dale with others fuels her commitment to carrying on their legacy.
