Dr. Stephen B. Webster was recognized with the American Academy of Dermatology Gold Medal Award.

Hailing from a family of medical professionals, Dr. Webster and his brother comprise the sixth generation of Webster doctors. Though he initially did not want to be a doctor, he reconsidered his decision while studying at Northwestern University as a biology major. He attended many courses relating to the field of medicine, discovered that he was fascinated with it, and he realized he wanted to pursue a career in the field. Dr. Webster continued his academic efforts at Northwestern University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1957 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1960.
Dr. Webster began his career as an intern at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, CO, from 1960 to 1961. After his internship, Dr. Webster entered the U.S. Army in 1962 and completed a residency at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. from 1962 to 1965. Extremely proud of his time in the military, he retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1969. He was stationed in Germany where he was a dermatologist at the 33rd Field Hospital in Würzburg. At the 33rd Field Hospital, Dr. Webster worked diligently as the chief of the Würzburg Medical Service area, which he found to be a challenge that he is proud to have accomplished.
Upon returning to the United States. Dr. Webster assumed the role of staff physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, from 1969 to 1971. In 1971 he accepted a position at Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, WI. He was also an associate clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He retired in 2018.
An expert in the field of dermatology, Dr. Webster is a fellow of the American Academy Dermatology, for which he held the posts of the organization's secretary and treasurer from 1985 to 1988 as well as the president in 1991. He also holds membership with the American Medical Association and the American Dermatological Association, where he was active as the president from 1996 to 1997. He was a director on the American Board of Dermatology from 1992 to 2000, and president in 2000.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Webster was presented with the Gundersen Anthony Pagliara Resident Teaching Award in 1979. He was additionally recognized with the American Academy of Dermatology Gold Medal Award in 2007. Most recently, Dr. Webster was celebrated with the Gundersen Lutheran Foundation Founders Award in Medical Leadership in 2011.
