Ms. Ault is renowned as a special education teacher and consultant with more than 47 years' experience in her field. She initially pursued and education at Georgia State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in 1976. She concluded her studies at Georgia State University in 1984, where she completed coursework for special education specialist endorsement. Ms. Ault is passionate about helping her students develop the skills and self-image to be independent adults.
From 1972 to 1975, Ms. Ault began her career as a special education teacher in the Butts County and Rockdale County School Systems, ascending to the post of the lead teacher from 1975 to 1977. In 1977 she accepted the post of a special education consultant for the Newton County School System in Covington, Georgia, where she remained until 1979. Between 1979 and 1994, she excelled in the LaGrange School System in LaGrange, Georgia as a special education curriculum consultant and the director of special education from 1979 to 1994. LaGrange School System was merged with the Troup County School System in late 1994. With this merger, Ms. Ault served as director of gifted education (1994-95) The director of student services from 1995 to 2000 which included coordinator of systemwide gifted and arts programs (1994-2000). Upon her retirement from Troup County School System she continued to be a consultant for the Troup County Arts Program (music, visual arts, theater, and band). Ms. Ault taught at LaGrange College from 1981-2018 as an adjunct professor for Special Education and elementary arts education for undergraduate and graduate students (37 years). A scholarship has been named in her honor, "Ethyl L. Ault Community Support." Ms. Ault was a member of the State of Georgia Task Force on alternative education and the president of the West Georgia Youth Council Board (1990-1996). (Now Twin Cedars Youth Council). She has received numerous accolades for her work, including a 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Association for Gifted Children and Certificate of appreciation from the Georgia State Panel for Special Education in 1991-1992. Additional awards from Newton County School System: Teacher of the Year 1976-1977.Newton-Rockdale Co – CEC (Council Exceptional Children) – Administrator of the year (1978-79) – CASE – Georgia Council of Administrators for Special Education Grateful Appreciation Award (1992). In 2018, LaGrange College named a scholarship in her honor. Moreover, Ms. Ault is the namesake of the Ault Academy (5-12 grad school), an honor she considers a career highlight.
At present, Ms. Ault is President of the Board of the LaGrange Art Museum (2018-2020) and President of L.I.F.E. (LaGrange International Friendship Exchange (2013-present).
